Acne is caused because of hormone imbalance. The hormone testosterone causes the skin glands, called sebaceous glands, to produce sebum. If this sebum blocks the hair follicles then acne results. Other things can also block the hair follicles, such as external contaminants (i. E., dust), oil, or dead skin cells and cause a sebum build up which will cause this inflammation.
So, how can a person get rid of acne? It is not a completely curable condition but here are some tips to help you reduce your acne.
Do not touch it. If you squeeze your spots you will force the contents deeper into the skin and you will probably end up with an infection. Also your hands are covered in dirt, oil and bacteria which you do not want to get into your pimples.
To prevent acne to get rid of acne you need to avoid oil-based products. Using water-based make-up, lotions, hair gels, mousses and sprays can prevent excessive oiliness of your skin which will block your pores and hair follicles, creating pimples. You can also get oily skin from eating greasy foods and junk food so these things are best avoided in order to control your acne.
It is known that washing too much or harshly can make acne worse because it makes the skin dry and sore. However it is advisable to wash your face twice a day, using a gentle soap and water. Avoid strong soaps and facial scrubs as these can damage your skin and glands and dry the skin out which will worsen the problem. Sebum is produced to protect your skin so if you fight this by exfoliating or cleansing excessively you will not do yourself any favours.
Benzoyl peroxide, resorcinol, sulphur and salicylic acid are all substances which help eradicate the dead skin cells, oil and dirt which are the major causes of acne. These ingredients are present in many of the topical acne preparations which are available over-the-counter today. Whilst effective against acne, they are strong and may irritate your skin. Speak to your doctor, dermatologist or pharmacist to get advice on the best, lowest-concentration product for you.
A doctor or dermatologist can also prescribe oral antibiotics such as tetracycline, doxycycline and monocycline for extreme acne. These often have undesirable side-effects so should be taken with care and the use monitored by the medical specialist. Changing your oral contraceptive pills if you are female can also be beneficial as the hormones present can cause acne. Alternatively your doctor may advise you to try out a different type of birth control.
By making sure that your body is capable of fighting infection you are half way to reducing your acne. A healthy lifestyle and a diet rich in nutrients and vitamins will surely help you to alleviate this skin infection.
